Constitutional Workshop – Johannesburg, South Africa

Overview:
The Constitutional Workshop, held at Hope High School in Johannesburg, South Africa, highlighted the growing commitment of the local community to Cardano governance. A total of 32 delegates, primarily WIMS-Cardano educators and IT tertiary students, attended the event. Legal representatives from African Legal Services were present to provide guidance on the legal implications of blockchain governance.
Concurrent Events:
Simultaneously, a North West workshop took place, attended by 14 members, including principals, educators, and community members. Both events are part of the WIMS-Cardano initiative, which has established four schools, including a special focus on WIMS-Cardano Girls.
Key Activities:
– Group Discussions: Delegates engaged in discussions on Cardano DReps constitutional sections, part of the CIP-1694 governance framework. The goal was to address governance challenges and propose solutions.
– Voting: Delegates used the Mentimeter app to vote on the various constitutional sections under review.
– Election of Delegates: Five delegates and alternates were elected via the Summons app:
1. Bernard Sibanda – Voting Delegate
2. Celiwe Ngwenya – Travelling Alternate
3. Ndzhaka Mabasa – Backup Alternate 1
4. Lesego Seko – Backup Alternate 2
5. Moyo Morgen – Backup Alternate 3
Broader Impact:
The concurrent workshops demonstrated the South African community’s strong dedication to Cardano’s decentralized governance. The involvement of local educators, students, and community leaders ensured that their voices are a key part of shaping Cardano’s governance on a global scale.
